Worcester Pest Identification: Ground Bees

Digger bees, also known as ground bees, are solitary bees that nest underground. Female digger bees build nests about 6 inches deep, creating a chamber with pollen and nectar for larvae. Males tunnel to the surface, waiting for females to emerge in spring. Digger bees are beneficial as pollinators and prey on harmful insects. They typically don't damage turf, but some leave soil piles outside holes. If you want to avoid insecticides, watering in early spring may deter them. Digger bees are 1⁄4 to ½ inch long, not aggressive, and generally don't sting unless threatened. Allergic individuals should be cautious and ensure they're dealing with digger bees, not bumble bees or wasps.
